Analyze Brain Research Influence The first years of a child’s life are very important. During this time, the child’s brain functions are developing. A child’s brain development begins at birth through about age eight. There are many factors that assist with the development of the brain such as genetics, nutrition, love, physical activity and the emotional interactions between parent and child. Brain Development The brain mainly consists of three parts: the brain stem, cerebrum, and cerebral cortex. The cerebral cortex is divided into four different lobes and is made up of neurons. The fine and gross motor skills and vision and memory are controlled by the brain. During a child’s brain development, many things are happening to the function of the body. Children can learn so much in the early years because the brain is functioning at a rapid and active pace. When a child is born, so begins the learning process. At conception, the treatment and nurturing of a child can play a role in the development of the brain and can cause a lasting effect on a child through adulthood. The most formative years of a child are from birth to age 5. About 90 percent of a child s brain develops in that time, according to studies (Mackenzie, 2008). And 85 percent of a child s intellect, personality, and social skills are developed by that age (Mackenzie, 2008). A child’s brain function develops at different times for each child.
